The Ron Ross Award Oration will be held on the Tuesday evening prior to the welcome reception. For those who are not aware, Ron died in April 2006 after being diagnosed just four months prior with a brain tumour. In addition to being head of Preventive Medicine and Deputy Director of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California, Ron was a colleague and friend of many of us and integral to the success of the first two PacRim Meetings, being the convener of the second meeting in Palm Springs. It is intended to make a significant award in memory of Ron at this and future PacRim Meetings. The award will both acknowledge Ron's remarkable contribution in the field of hormonal carcinogenesis and also provide an opportunity to recognize significant contributions by others in the field. The recipient of the award will give the Ron Ross Oration on the first evening of the meeting prior to the welcome function.
This year's PacRim Meeting will include a debate, as a stand alone function, again in a congenial setting with adequate refreshments to prime participants. The debate title is "Genomics: 8 years after sequencing of the human genome – Start of the Golden Age of Biology or Unfulfilled Hype".
