RON ROSS ORATION

The Ron Ross Award and Oration will be held on the Tuesday evening prior to the welcome reception. For those who are not aware, Ron died in April this year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour just prior to Christmas. In addition to being head of Preventive Medicine and Deputy Director of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California, Ron was a colleague and friend of many of us and integral to the success of the first two PacRim Meetings, being the convenor of the second meeting in Palm Springs. It is intended to make a significant award in memory of Ron at this and future PacRim Meetings. The award will both acknowledge Ron's remarkable contribution in the field of hormonal carcinogenesis and also provide an opportunity to recognise significant contributions by others in the field. The recipient of the award will give the Ron Ross Oration on the first evening of the meeting prior to the welcome function.

In addition to the Ron Ross Award and Oration on the opening evening, there will be a tribute to Ron Ross. This will include a range of speakers, including both colleagues of Ron and experts in the field of epidemiology, who will illustrate and comment on some of Ron's major contributions to the field of hormonal carcinogenesis.

The Ron Ross Award is sponsored by the foundation PacRim Meeting institutions. USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Garvan Institute for Medical Research, The Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital and the Hanson Institute.

DEBATE

This year's PacRim Meeting will include a debate, as a stand alone function, again in a congenial setting with adequate refreshments to prime participants. The debate title is "Molecular Profiling and Biomarkers have Revolutionised Cancer Medicine".

POSTERS

Posters have been incorporated into the program this year to facilitate participation by students and post-doctoral fellows. The Poster session will be held in an informal setting with drinks and refreshments both before and after dinner on the Wednesday evening. Selected poster submissions will be invited to make a short (5 min) presentation in a relevant session. See Posters for details of abstract submission and format of posters.
